As of April 2005 the UKs General Social Care Council (GSCC) will be able to enforce the "protection of title" restriction, which makes it illegal to practice as a social worker without being registered.

To practice as a Qualified Social Worker in the UK you must either have a degree or a diploma in Social Work and be registered with the GSCC.

Internationally / Overseas Qualified Social Workers have a two part registration process. The first part is qualification and experience verification.
